American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge Nebraska

Dear Guests, Volunteers, and Donors,

Every day, someone hears the words, “You have cancer.” Most can’t recall what transpires in the moments after that. Fleeting thoughts, jumbled words and the pendulum of emotions.

I’ve heard those words too, and I don’t recall the words that came after being told of my diagnosis. I thought about my family. I thought about my wife. I thought, “What does this ultimately mean?”
In that moment, I started my own cancer journey.

During my treatment and recovery, I did a lot of watching, learning and researching. What I knew was that I had a chance for a life after cancer and that I would be called to help other cancer patients navigate their darkest days. During my recovery, I also learned that the American Cancer Society would soon break ground on a new Hope Lodge— a Hope Lodge in Nebraska.

In the late spring of 2017, although not actively searching for a new career opportunity, I saw the job posting - Manager, Hope Lodge. I applied for the position, and thirteen days prior to being cancer-free for one year, I joined the American Cancer Society staff as the manager of Hope Lodge Nebraska. My calling. My vocation. My opportunity to give back to cancer patients had come true. Now, together with my staff, we provide the compassionate care needed by our guests within a healing environment filled with respect and dignity for all who walk through our doors.

Join us – you can support our guests with your generosity. Monetary and in-kind donations help sustain and improve all that we offer. We can put your skills, gifts and efforts to work. Contact us to learn how you can help us continue to provide this home away from home for those who travel here for their lifesaving treatment.

It is a privilege to be your Hope Lodge manager and to be on this journey with you.

Hope Lodge Nebraska is more than just a lodging facility. Hope Lodge provides a home away from home for cancer patients and their caregivers traveling for treatment, eliminating many emotional and financial concerns and allowing patients to focus on what is most important, getting well. Hope Lodge Nebraska provides a supportive and nurturing environment, along with homelike amenities such as community kitchens, laundry rooms, and recreational areas.

You can take part in uniting the community to save lives from cancer by Giving Hope a Home.
Continued fundraising support is needed during and after construction of the lodge. For the American Cancer Society, luminaria are a symbol of hope. Purchasing a luminaria in support of Hope Lodge Nebraska is a way to honor and remember survivors and caregivers. This is an opportunity for businesses, individuals, families, friends and survivors to have a personal stake in building a community of hope by making general donations to the lodge or by purchasing a luminaria that will be permanently displayed on the Hope Lodge Nebraska Campus.

Your name or the name of a loved one will be featured on a luminaria. Luminaria will be permanently displayed in the terrace on the campus of Hope Lodge Nebraska. This will allow you to show the community that you support Giving Hope a Home

Each luminaria represents a treasured relationship. They symbolize the people we love; each has a name and a story to tell. They are our mothers, our fathers, our sisters, our brothers, our sons, our daughters, our friends, and our loved ones. Displayed day and night, they represent our shared vision for a cancer-free future.

Your donation to remember or honor a loved one will provide hope to all those facing cancer and all the families affected by the disease. All proceeds go directly to help the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge Nebraska, a place of comfort for those in the midst of a cancer journey.
