About Camp Adventure

A Time for Fun
Camp Adventure provides children with cancer both on and off treatment, with the opportunity to meet other survivors. It is a time to share ideas, hopes, fears and dreams with other children who can understand their perspective. Daily activities are designed to meet the special needs of campers, while challenging them and fostering independence and self-confidence. Programs include sports, arts and crafts, swimming, nature activities, archery, karate, music, and campwide field day and carnival. Each night is filled with traditions like bonfire, theme dances, games, talent shows, parties and more.

Our Volunteer Staff
The camp is staffed entirely by caring volunteers to create nearly a one-to-one camper to staffer ratio. All Camp Adventure volunteers are at least 18 years of age and have experience working with children. Many staff members are survivors themselves and are particularly sensitive to the issues campers face. Each staff member is screened and completes a comprehensive training program that includes an overview of childhood cancer and the unique needs of cancer patients and their siblings.

Our Medical Staff
Quality medical care is provided to campers by volunteer professionals, including physicians, nurses, and EMTs. The medical staff is on site 24 hours a day to administer oral chemotherapy, change dressings, and respond to all ailments, from minor scrapes and bruises to emergencies. Hospital representatives help determine camper eligibility and provide referrals, and a medical advisory team reviews each camper application and contacts new families prior to camp.

Our Funding -- Making a World of Difference
Camp Adventure is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and funded through ongoing contributions. It costs approximately $1,000 to sponsor a camper, but donations of any size are greatly appreciated. The Camp Wish List also provides an opportunity for businesses to provide specific supplies or sponsor special camp activities and camper giveaways.

Join Our Adventure
To join Camp Adventure, children must be cancer patients, on or off treatment, or their siblings.  When patients are too ill or too young to attend, sibling applications are still considered. All campers must submit an application packet and a health form completed by their physician. To request a camper or volunteer application, donate to Camp Adventure, or get more information on childhood cancer, call 1.800.ACS.2345.
